A major Public Health issue in the United States is associated with individuals who have a diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). It is known to be the leading preventable cause of mental retardation and is a disorder that results in life long disability.

WHAT?
This course will introduce health care practitioners
to the implications associated with the diagnosis of
Fetal Alcohol syndrome. The history and epidemiology of
the disorder will be discussed. How to make a diagnosis
and to initiate the appropriate intervention, as well as how
to initiate preventive programs will also be presented.
WHO?
This program is a public health initiative to provide
information on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome to all health
care providers or to anyone who might have an interest in
knowing more about this disorder.
WHERE?
One may take this course in the privacy of their home or at work.  You will need the following:  Computer with internet access, have and be able to use at least Microsoft Word ‘98, and comfortable navigating the Web and email usage.
WHY?

It is imperative that all Health Care practitioners know not
only about the impact this disorder is having on the public
health of Americans but also on how to become advocates
for prevention and early intervention.

This course could also benefit any allied health clinician.
