WHY?

Physical therapists are presently transitioning from a healthcare environment that only allowed evaluation and treatment via a physician’s prescription to an environment that allows direct access.  Direct access allows a physical therapist to treat a patient without a prescription.  Presently, 42 states have a form of direct access and the State of Tennessee joined those 42 states as of July 1, 2007 with the passing of House Bill 964.  This Bill allows physical therapists to deliver services without a prescription when a physical therapist has met specific criteria.  Physical Therapists need an understanding of radiology so that they can effectively evaluate and treat patients in the new arena of direct access.
