Specific Course Requirements:
This course will require students to use the following software applications: Microsoft Office including Access; Microsoft Visio, & Microsoft Project. Students may elect to download trial versions of Visio and Project at key points during the course.
Textbooks, Supplementary Materials, Hardware and Software Requirements
Textbooks: visit the Virtual Bookstore to obtain textbook information for this course: http://rodp.bkstr.com

Supplemental Resources: Refer to your intermediate level Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Access) resource that you purchased in previous courses. In addition, you may determine that you need a resource for Microsoft Visio. Make this determination AFTER you have reviewed online resources. I recommend going to a bookstore and spending some time reading several of these references to determine if the mix between text and pictures meet your needs. You will use this throughout the remainder of the curriculum.

Hardware Requirements:
The minimum requirements can be found at http://www.rodp.org/students/hardware_software.htm.
Software Requirements:
The minimum requirements can be found at http://www.rodp.org/students/hardware_software.htm.

Assessment and Grading
Testing Procedures:
All course requirements, including the final exam will be submitted online.
Grading Procedure:

Grading rubrics are presented with each assignment to alert students to key components and how point value will be assigned. All work is submitted online. No credit will be given for assignments that are not presented in a professional manner. Work presented with grammatical errors, spelling errors, incomplete thoughts/sentences etc. will not be graded. All Due Dates are noted on the calendar! These assignments are structured to build both conceptual and application skills that will be required in practice. Be sure and retain copies of output for future reference.

All students are expected to adhere to the policies and guidelines of the honor code system as outlined in your Home University Student Handbook and the RODP. Any academic or professional misconduct, including cheating, will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the program.  Plagiarism or cheating will result in an "F" in the course.

Grading Scale:
  • 93-100---A
  • 85-92---B
  • 77-84---C
  • 70-76---D
  • <70---F
Assignments and Participation
Assignments and Projects:

The student will complete the following graded projects:

  • Project Plan - 15%
  • Workflow Metrics and Data Collection Tool - 15%
  • Database Table Design - 20%
  • Proof of Concept - 20%
  • Project Management - 10%
  • Project Team Contribution - 5%
  • Final Exam - 15%

Details about these assignments are found in the appropriate course modules.

Class Participation:

All students are expected to actively participate in online class discussions and project team meetings. Each discussion question posted will be assigned a date by which the student must respond.  If a student is unable to fulfill this requirement for any reason, he/she should notify the instructor prior to the class and make alternative arrangements.  The aim is to encourage interaction among students and faculty, not simply to present information. Students are required to respond to all discussion questions. Student responses to discussion questions must be substantive, that is, thoughtful and analytical. Because the WebCT system has its own way of formatting material posted on the discussion feature, the student will not be expected to strictly follow APA guidelines for online submissions. However, the student is held to academic standards of writing style and the use of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Students are required to participate in and contribute to at least 8 team meetings during the semester. More information related to these team meetings are found in Module 1.

Punctuality:

Late Policy: Assignments are not accepted after the due date unless prior arrangements are made in < advance> of the due date.  This course is demanding, so it is imperative that you stay on target with your progress!

Students are expected to:

  • Check the course calendar for the due dates of assignments.
  • Check the course bulletin board frequently for announcements.
Course Ground Rules
  • Learn how to navigate in the WebCT system.
  • Participate by responding to all discussion questions.
  • Keep abreast of course announcements.
  • Use the assigned college or university e-mail address as opposed to a personal e-mail address.
  • Contact the instructor if unclear about assignment expectations.
  • Address technical problems immediately.
  • Adhere to the Honor Code.
Guidelines for Communications

Links to library materials (such as electronic journals, databases, interlibrary loans, digital reserves, dictionaries, encyclopedias, maps, and librarian support) and Internet resources needed by learners to complete online assignments and as background reading must be included in all courses.

Students With Disabilities

Qualified students with disabilities will be provided reasonable and necessary academic accommodations if determined eligible by the appropriate disability services staff at their home institution. Prior to granting disability accommodations in this course, the instructor must receive written verification of a student's eligibility for specific accommodations from the disability services staff at the home institution. It is the student's responsibility to initiate contact with their home institution's disability services staff and to follow the established procedures for having the accommodation notice sent to the instructor.

Syllabus Changes

The instructor reserves the left to make changes as necessary to this syllabus. If changes are necessitated during the term of the course, the instructor will immediately notify students of such changes both by individual email communication and posting both notification and nature of change(s) on the course bulletin board.
