Assignments and Projects |
Examinations: There are 3 objective examinations in this course. Examinations will be time-
limited and administered via the course website.
Professional Paper: One formal paper is due in this course. The assignment requires the student to identify and explore a contemporary issue related to human resource management in nursing organizations. The student is required to examine the current healthcare literature and synthesize current research findings within the text of the paper. The student is also required to select and apply one method of human resource management theory to address the issue. Papers must be formatted according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 5th ed. 2001.
Discussion Board Assignments: Discussion board questions and assignments will be posted in association with each of the three course modules. Please respond to all of these on the discussion board, unless you are directed otherwise. It is recommended that you review the new postings on the discussion board daily, or at least three times per week. Discussion Board Grades will be posted after each module. Those scores will be combined to comprise the final Discussion Board grade for the course.
The discussion board can (and should) be the most important learning tool in online courses, if it is used properly. The discussion board is analogous to coming to class in traditional courses. The following will be considered when grading discussion board activity:
· Did the student participate in "Original Posts", as well as providing "Response Posts" to peers?
· Are the original posts: correct/accurate, supported by references or citations, thought-provoking, original (versus a rewording of something already posted), professionally written (with proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling)?
· Do the response posts add new ideas to the discussion?
· Does the student appear to be engaged with peers in the discussion throughout the week? Or, do they post all their information on the last days of the lesson (which doesn't allow peers much opportunity to provide feedback).
· Quality in discussions will be considered more important than quantity.
· Students are expected to at least read all the information that is posted on the Discussion Board.
Course Ground Rules |
The student is expected to:
• Learn how to navigate in the WebCT system.
• Keep abreast of course announcements.
• Use the assigned college or university e-mail address as opposed to a personal address.
• Contact the instructor if unclear about assignment expectations.
• Address technical problems immediately.
Guidelines for Email Communication |
• Always include a subject line.
• Remember without facial expressions some comments may be taken the wrong way.
• Be careful in wording your emails. Use of emoticons might be helpful in some cases.
• Use standard fonts.
• Do not send large attachments without permission.
• Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.
• Respect the privacy of other class members.
Library |
The Tennessee Virtual Library is available to all students enrolled in the Regents Degree Program. A link to the Virtual Library is included on the Course Menu under Study Tools.
Students with Disabilities |
Qualified students with disabilities will be provided reasonable and necessary academic accommodations if determined eligible by the appropriate disability services staff at their home institution. Prior to granting disability accommodations in this course, the instructor must receive written verification of a student's eligibility for specific accommodations from the disability services staff at the home institution. It is the student's responsibility to initiate contact with his/her home institution's disability services staff and to follow the established procedures for having the accommodation notice sent to the instructor.
Syllabus Changes |
The instructor reserves the right to make changes as necessary to this syllabus. If changes are necessitated during the term of the course, the instructor will immediately notify students of such changes both by individual email communication and posting both notification and nature of change(s) on the course website.
