Course Information

Course Description:

A synthesis of concepts used for effective performance of the nurse executive’s role in organizations. The use of human and financial resources in organizational development is explored.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Develop systematic plan of organization restructure within a nursing organization.
  2. Use nursing resources to promote efficacy within the nursing organization.
  3. Evaluate effectiveness of nursing organization outcomes.
  4. Use marketing strategies implemented by nurse consultants.
  5. Evaluate ethical/legal issues related to nursing consultation practices.
  6. Develop a comprehensive business plan to establish independent nursing business ventures

Assignments and Participation
Assignments and Projects: Detailed instructions for all papers and project can be found on the WebCT link.
Module Writing Assignments:
 
Various modules within this course allow the students opportunities to demonstrate understanding of the content within that module. The student is expected to use the concepts and theories incorporated in the reading assignments. All content elements should be are clearly addressed within the body of the paper.

Writing assignments are expected to follow the criteria below:

  • include a title page with title and student name

  • paginated (number the pages) with a running head on every page  (APA)

  • presented in acceptable typeface -Times Roman, American Typewriter, Courier  (12 font size)

  • double spaced with 1-inch margins on all sides.

  • the first line of every paragraph indented five spaces

  • free of grammatical and spelling errors*

  • comply with APA guidelines for citation within the text

  • comply with APA guidelines for direct quotes within the text

  • reference page in correct APA style

Comprehensive Business/Intervention Proposal

The student will develop a comprehensive business proposal for a selected nursing service line practice area. The proposal will include target consumers, service line offered, marketing strategies, and financial management. The student is required to describe the outcome measures used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposal.

Class Participation:
Students must participate in all interactive aspects of the course. For example, students must participate in the "class discussions" for each topic posted by the instructor. All students must actively participate in threaded discussion events within the time specified by the instructor. Discussion responses are expected to be substantive and reflect the concepts and terminology used in the assigned text readings. 
 
Students are expected to communicate with the instructor as a learning resource, students must check the course bulletin board frequently for announcements.

Students are expected to:

  • Learn how to navigate in the WebCT system.

  • Participate by responding to all discussion questions.

  • Keep abreast of course announcements.

  • Use the assigned college or university e-mail address as opposed to a personal e-mail address.

  • Contact the instructor if unclear about assignment expectations.

  • Always include a subject line.
  • Remember without facial expressions some comments may be taken the wrong way. Be careful in wording your emails. Use of emoticons might be helpful in some cases.
  • Use standard fonts.
  • Do not send large attachments without permission.
  • Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.
  • Respect the privacy of other class members
Discussion Groups:
  • Review the discussion threads thoroughly before entering the discussion. Be a lurker then a discussant.
  • Try to maintain threads by using the "Reply" button rather starting a new topic.
  • Do not make insulting or inflammatory statements to other members of the discussion group. Be respectful of other’s ideas.
  • Be patient and read the comments of other group members thoroughly before entering your remarks.
  • Be cooperative with group leaders in completing assigned tasks.
  • Be positive and constructive in group discussions.
  • Respond in a thoughtful and timely manner.
