Concentration in Human Resources Leadership

Program Summary

Total credits required for graduation: 33

The Human Resources concentration is available at APSU, TSU, TTU, and UOM.

Note: The 5000 and 6000 levels numbering of courses for APSU / ETSU / TSU will be cross-listed with the 6000 used by MTSU and TTU and the 7000 levels numbering of courses used at UOM.

A. Core Courses: Students will complete the following three core courses (9 hours).

PRST 5100 / 6100 / 7100 Professional Environment: Issues and Ethics 3 credits
PRST 5200 / 6200 / 7200 Globalization and the Professions 3 credits
PRST 5300 / 6300 / 7300 Research Methods 3 credits


B. Concentration for Human Resources Leadership: Students will complete the following four courses (12 hours) .

PRST 5040 / 6040 / 7040 Human Resources Management 3 credits
PRST 5600 / 6600 / 7600 Statistical Analysis 3 credits
PRST 5910 / 6910 / 7910 Employment and Human Resources Law 3 credits
PRST 5920 / 6920 / 7920 Diversity in the Workplace 3 credits

C. Students will select one of the following two courses (3 hours).

PRST 5500 / 6500 / 7500 Foundations of Leadership 3 credits
PRST 5310 / 6310 / 7310 Leadership in Organization 3 credits

D. Students will select two of the following four courses (6 hours).

PRST 5700 / 6700 / 7700 Conflict Management and Negotiation 3 credits
PRST 5930 / 6930 / 7930 Compensation and Benefits 3 credits
PRST 5940 / 6940 / 7940 Recruitment, Selection, and Retention 3 credits
PRST 5460 / 6460 / 7460 Instructional Design Training and Development 3 credits

E. Professional Project: The Master of Professional Studies program requires every student to complete a professional project as the culminating experience in earning the degree.

PRST 5998 / 6998 / 7998 Professional Project (Must be taken during the final semester of the program) Students should begin planning their project when they enter the MPS program. They should consult their advisor about appropriate topics and submit their proposal for approval prior to entering this course. 3 credits
