Phase
One: Initial Decisions and First Edits
Homepage Edits
- Change the
banner image. (This file should be located in instructor_images. If it is
not, please email a request and one will be sent via email attachment.)
- Change the
Course Prefix, Number, Title, and Credit hours.
- Do NOT change
the Instructor info - this will be done immediately preceding the start
of the semester.
- Edit the text
(not the heading) of the Welcome to Class block. This should be your own
phrasing.
- Edit the text
(not the heading) of the Course Description block. This should be the catalog
description also seen in the syllabus.
- Edit the text
(not the heading) of the How to Get Started block. This will be course specific.
- Do NOT edit
the Guidelines for RODP Courses or the Disclaimer.
Syllabus Edits
- The syllabus
that comes in the template is a file named syllabus-courseNumber-semester.htm
and can be found inside the edit-these-files directory.
- Download this
file and edit it. Pretty much all text in the generic template should be
replaced. The banner image should be changed to the course specific banner.
- After editing
this file, it should be saved with a course-specific name such as syllabus-abnormal-psychology-fall-2002.htm.
- Upload the
newly named syllabus file into the instructor-files folder.
- Reassign the
syllabus link by clicking on Syllabus, Designer Options, Syllabus source
(lower right hand corner).
Communication
Page
- If chat and/or
whiteboard are not being used in the course, these links should be removed.
- The course
developer may wish to implement the Wimba Voice Discussion Board tool.
- The upper
and lower textblocks should be edited.
Assignments
- The Assignments
page contains a link to the WebCT Assignment tool. The
assignment tool should be used if student are requested to turn in files
such as Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, etc. rather than using
e-mail attachments.
- The advantages
and (considerable) disadvantages should be understood before deleting either
of these pages. This decision can be made later in the development process.
- The upper
and lower textblocks should be edited.
Study Tools
- The How This
Course Works should be edited to be course specific.
- The upper
and lower textblocks should be edited.
