Campus Mentor Duties

  1. Collaborate with other mentors in the area to provide on-ground training sessions as needed.
  2. Train new Regents Online faculty in RODP policies and procedures (on-ground and online) and in D2L teaching and learning tools – lead a minimum of two sessions per semester (one prior to the semester and one during the semester) in order to maintain a mentor position.
  3. Become familiar with every D2L tool as soon as possible by participating in training for at least one new tool per semester.
  4. Assist with the cloning of the master copy to all assigned mentees’ sections as needed to ensure course consistency.
  5. Assist assigned mentees in preparations for opening of semesters (updates to instructor information, welcome message, etc.).
  6. Volunteer regularly for the Start Up and Final Grades Help Desks.
  7. If requested by Mentor Coordinator, monitor the Faculty Forum in the D2L discussion area for technical or pedagogical problems, troubleshoot, reply to faculty, and report any major or sensitive issues to the Associate Vice Chancellor.
  8. Provide mentoring to all assigned mentees to ensure high-quality course delivery to students each semester by addressing quickly any questions or issues that arise.
  9. Keep assigned mentees informed of timelines, due dates, and final grade posting procedure and deadlines.
  10. Perform Z-Quality checks of all course sections and report as requested by the mentor coordinator.
  11. Share learning objects and resources with assigned mentees and submit at least three learning objects per year to MERLOT.
  12. Participate in training regarding the pedagogy of online teaching and learning.
  13. Participate in summer eLearning Academies regarding best practices, pedagogy.
  14. Complete the Mentor Management Site Mentor Report each semester to document activities.

Content Mentors

Content Mentor Duties

  1. Provide online or face-to-face orientation to all sectional instructors teaching the course each semester. This orientation should include content-specific training regarding textbook, timelines, assignments, assessments, student issues, library activities, and any other items critical to student success in the course.
  2. Train new Regents Online faculty in policies and procedures as requested by the mentor coordinator, who will make assignments based on each individual content mentors’ workload.
  3. Become familiar with every D2L tool as soon as possible by participating in training for at least one new tool per semester.
  4. Assist with the cloning of the master copy to all sections as needed to ensure course consistency.
  5. Assist assigned mentees in preparations for opening of semesters (updates to instructor information, welcome message, etc.).
  6. Volunteer regularly for the Start Up and Final Grades Help Desks.

  12. Participate in training regarding the pedagogy of online teaching and learning.
  13. Complete the Mentor Management Site Mentor Report each semester to document activities
  14. Lead a debriefing session at the end of the semester to get feedback from all instructors of the course for the purpose of making quality revisions to the course master copy.
  15. Select and periodically review and assess the textbook and resource materials for the course.
  16. Prepare the master copy of the course and complete updates by the scheduled cloning date.
  17. Address retention issues and data for the course and pilot online retention activities.
  18. Participate in summer eLearning Academies regarding best practices, pedagogy.
  19. Research and implement high quality course updates (rubrics, assessments, content, multimedia, interactivity, publisher content, etc.).

Program Mentor Duties

  1. Assist ROCC Administrators with program implementation and guidelines (marketing, accreditation, self-studies, academic audit, SACS, etc.).
  2. Assist with program curriculum improvement.
  3. Assist faculty with curriculum committee recommendations.
  4. Assist with program meetings and academies.

Instructional Design Mentors

Facilitators: Gary Storts, Jennifer Knott

Goal: Ready availability of instructional design mentors to assist faculty in accessing and implementing discipline-specific materials for course development and three year updates.

Campus Representatives: Mary Nunaley for iDesign Center, Pam Taylor for Nursing

Instructional Design Mentor Duties:

  1. Assist ROCC Director of Instructional Design Center with course development for faculty training.
  2. Assist faculty with D2L course design-related issues.
  3. Investigate course multimedia enhancements.
  4. Serve on course review teams (instructional design of the online learning template, etc.).
  5. Provide instructional design training.
  6. Develop and maintain the iDesign Center web site.
  7. Participate in summer eLearning Academies regarding best practices, pedagogy.
  8. If requested by Mentor Coordinator, monitor the Faculty Forum in the D2L discussion area for technical or pedagogical problems, troubleshoot, reply to faculty, and report any major or sensitive issues to the Associate Vice Chancellor.
  9. Complete the Mentor Management Site Mentor Report each semester to document activities.

TTC Mentors

Facilitator: Richard Woodward

Goal: Support TTC faculty in online teaching and course development.

Technology Center Representatives: Sarah Durham, Regina Horner, Judy Johnson, Richard Woodward

Technology Center Mentor Duties:

  1. Train new TTC faculty in policies and procedures (on-ground and online).
  2. Train new TTC faculty in D2L teaching and learning tools.
  3. Assist faculty in preparations for opening of TTC semesters (updates to courses, cloning of courses, etc.).
  4. Perform Z-Quality Course Checks on TTC courses to ensure format, policies, course design guidelines.
  5. Mentor TTC faculty.
  6. Inform TTC faculty of timelines, due dates, and final grade posting procedures and deadlines.
  7. Participate in summer eLearning Academies regarding best practices, pedagogy.
  8. Complete the Mentor Management Site Mentor Report each semester to document activities.

Training Mentors

Facilitator: David Tiller

Goal: Assist with pedagogy and online enhancements training for teaching and learning (including planning faculty training activities, providing online and on-ground training, etc.).

Training Mentors: Charles Cooper, Patrick Davis, Lucia Vanderpool

Training Mentor Duties:

  1. Assist the Training Manager as requested.
  2. Conduct online and on-ground faculty training.
  3. Assist with training the trainers.
  4. Assist in the preparation of training materials.
  5. Review training evaluations and recommendations.
  6. Investigate and test new online tools.
  7. If requested by Mentor Coordinator, monitor the Faculty Forum in the D2L discussion area for technical or pedagogical problems, troubleshoot, reply to faculty, and report any major or sensitive issues to the Associate Vice Chancellor.
  8. Complete the Mentor Management Site Mentor Report each semester to document activities.

Accessibility Mentors

Coordinator: Jennifer Knott

Goal: Ready availability of accessibility mentors to assist faculty with accessibility-related issues associated with course development and content.

ADA Mentors: Philip Voorhees, Todd Blankeneckler

Accessibility Mentor Duties:

  1. Train new  faculty in ADA and accessibility-related  policies and procedures (on-ground and online).
  2. Assist faculty on home campus in preparations for opening of online semesters (updates to courses, cloning of courses, etc.).
  3. Develop ADA Quality Course Checks for all courses.
  4. Perform ADA Quality Course Checks on courses (to ensure content is ADA compliant).
  5. Mentor  faculty in accessibility-related issues.
  6. Submit at least three learning objects to MERLOT.
  7. Send the coordinator an end of the semester checklist report that documents activities.

Admissions & Records Mentors

These mentors have special duties as assigned and are not required to mentor one-on-one with faculty. The listed duties are suggestive and non-exclusive. Specific required duties are requested by the Associate Vice Chancellor.

Mentors: Sheryl Burnett, Lance Woodard

Goal: Assist TBR staff and the Curriculum Committee in ensuring that proper policies and procedures are followed regarding student admissions and records.

Admissions & Records Mentor Duties:

  1. Check new course numbers and titles against others offered throughout the system to ensure unique identification of all courses.
  2. Assist in proper identification of student registration.
  3. Ensure systematic and accurate transfer of grades.
  4. Troubleshoot system records issues (grade changes, etc.).
  5. Complete the Mentor Management Site Mentor Report each semester to document activities.

Virtual Library Mentor

This mentor has special duties as assigned and is not required to mentor one-on-one with faculty. The listed duties are suggestive and non-exclusive. Specific required duties are requested by the Associate Vice Chancellor.

Mentor: Peter Nerzak

Goal: Encourage and assist faculty in the use of virtual library materials and the incorporation of research assignments into their online course design.

Library Mentor Duties:

  1. Assist with analysis of resources.
  2. Test new products and applications.
  3. Provide guidance to faculty in use of library resources.
  4. Explore with faculty ways of incorporating virtual library materials and research assignments into their courses.
  5. Coordinate library assessments.
  6. Complete the Mentor Management Site Mentor Report each semester to document activities.

IT Mentors

These mentors have special duties as assigned and are not required to mentor one-on-one with faculty. The listed duties are suggestive and non-exclusive. Specific required duties are requested by the Associate Vice Chancellor.

Facilitator: Jim Dye

Mentors: Lee Frakes, Donnell King, Audrey Williams

Goal: Ready availability of IT mentors to assist faculty and staff in the development of technological tools and in problem solving; assist ROCC staff with D2L weekly meetings.

IT Mentor Duties:

  1. Assist faculty and staff with D2L related issues and updates.
  2. Test new software and/or D2L tools.
  3. Program as needed (database, mentor management, etc.)
  4. Complete the Mentor Management Site Mentor Report each semester to document activities.
