Faculty Mentors

Every Regents Online instructor has a Faculty Mentor. Faculty Mentors have been carefully selected for their knowledge of online teaching and their willingness to help.

Feel free to contact your mentor directly. If you do not know who your Faculty Mentor is, use the links shown below to locate your mentor's contact information. If you have trouble finding or contacting your mentor, notify Andrea Sanders, Faculty Mentor Coordinator, at andrea.sanders@chattanoogastate.edu.

Faculty Mentor Search Tools

To find a mentor, open one of the spreadsheets linked below. For example, if you are a faculty member looking for your mentor, open the first document: “Search By Instructor First Name.” The information on this spreadsheet is sorted by the first name of each instructor. Find your name and then look on the same row for the name of your mentor.

For the easiest search of all, pick any spreadsheet and use your "Find" tool:

  • Menu --> Edit --> Find
  • PC: control + "f"
  • Mac: Command + "f"

Type in the name you are looking for and click "Enter" or "Return."

Faculty Mentor Responsibilities

  • Assist new faculty members in preparing their course sections for online delivery.
  • Assist with z-Quality checks, ensuring that:

    • Course sections have been properly cloned from the master copy
    • Course template has been followed
    • Course menu links are standard
    • Colors and fonts are readable and follow template guidelines
    • Course syllabus is posted and is in the Regents Online format
    • Instructor contact information is correct on the home page and the instructor page
    • Instructor listed in course section matches instructor listed in the Regents Online SIS system
    • Welcome message has been posted
    • Dates in the calendar, assessments, dropbox, and discussions reflect the current semester.
  • Assist faculty in setting class rules and guidelines.
  • Assist faculty in checking class enrollment via D2L and the Regents Online SIS list.
  • Assist faculty in using the communication tools of D2L (e-mail, white board, chat and discussion board).
  • Assist faculty in modifying, scheduling and releasing assignments and quizzes.
  • Assist faculty with grading system, how to post grades.
  • Assist faculty in incorporating Virtual Library assignments into their class and in providing students their passwords.
  • Assist faculty with online classroom management.
  • Assist with faculty training both on-ground and online.
  • Monitor the Faculty Forum in the D2L discussion area and replies to/reports any issues that arise.
  • Monitor faculty-student interactions. Faculty members are to:  

    • Initiate communication with their students at least three times per week
    • Log in to each course section at least every 48 hours
    • Return feedback on major assignments within two weeks.
  • Send faculty ideas for encouragement for continuous growth in the pedagogy of online teaching and learning, especially in the area of enhancing student achievement and outcomes.
  • Send faculty ideas and encouragement for incorporating media-rich, interactive learning objects into their course design.
  • Send faculty ideas and encouragement for incorporating Web 2.0 tools into their course design.
