Special Education Additional Endorsement

The Special Education additional endorsement is available at both the graduate and the undergraduate level. Graduate courses are identified as 5000 or 6000 level courses according to the home universities policies.  Undergraduate courses are at the 4000 level.

Credit Hours:

  • Mild/Moderate - 24 credit hours - Prepares teachers of students with mild and moderate disabilities: these students can participate in the regular curriculum with appropriate adaptations and support. (K-12)

  • Comprehensive - 26 credit hours - Prepares teachers of students with severe and multiple disabilities. (K-12)

  • Early Childhood Disabilities - 26 credit hours - Prepares teachers to work with young children with disabilities and developmental delays, ages birth through eight. (PreK-3)

Applied Behavioral Intervention and Support 4 This course involves the study of modifying student behavior using techniques of applied behavior analysis in a variety of educational settings. Through individual readings, interaction with classmates, and group and individual projects, students will increase awareness for options for modifying behavior with a focus on behavioristic interventions. Practicum:

  • Students enrolling in a course which includes a practicum can expect to spend 30 hours in a classroom with special needs students in the emphasis area in which the student is seeking the additional teaching endorsement.
  • Students may not enroll in two practicum courses during the same semester.
  • Faculty teaching practicum courses will partner with the students' school district to make sure that students are placed in the correct practicum for their concentration area.
