Dr. Marilyn Whitley
Dr. Marilyn Whitley serves on the staff at TBR as the Program Mentor for the RODP Education Program.
Dr. Whitley is an experienced educator at all levels in the classroom with thirty plus years of experience in teaching. She has taught students ranging from grades 4 through graduate school. She taught in higher education at Middle TN State University in the Education Department and TN State University in the Department of Academic Enrichment for a total of eleven years. She has presented workshops, seminars and papers for continuing education in the community and for other professional educators throughout the nation. She has supervised student teachers and taught Education classes as well as served as classroom supervisor of student teachers in her classrooms in Metro Schools.
She began her career in elementary and secondary schools in LA and continued in middle and high schools in TN as well as higher education. She served as Team leader or Social Studies Department Chair for many years in Metro Nashville Public Schools and served on the Professional Education Committee at TN State University. In 2005, Dr. Whitley received the honor of Outstanding TN Social Studies Teacher of the Year from the TN Council for the Social Studies. During this time she was teaching Honors and AP U.S. History.
Dr. Whitley earned her undergraduate degree in Speech and Social Studies Education from LA Tech University in Ruston, LA. She completed her Master of Education degree in Secondary Reading from LA State University in Baton Rouge and then earned her Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee State University.
Dr. Whitley’s primary responsibilities include:
- Mentoring teachers in the RODP Education Program
- Assisting with the coordination of the RODP Education Program
- Assisting with the coordination of the RODP Master of Professional Studies Program
- Assisting with the coordination of the Teacher Education Curriculum Committee
- Assisting with the recruiting and marketing of both programs
