Continuing Responsibilities of RODP Course Developers
Once the development process is completed for a course and the course has passed the RODP Quality review process, the course is placed into the RODP course inventory to be offered through the campus registration systems. However, this is just the first phase of being a course developer. Once a course has been placed into the RODP course inventory, a new set of responsibilities emerges for RODP course developers.
Continuing responsibilites for RODP Course Developers include:
- Updating the course prior to the beginning of each semester to make sure that it is ready to be cloned. As discussed on the Master Course page, the RODP uses a Master Copy of your course which is kept up to date with the latest updates, modifications and current information. It is this copy of your course which wil be copied to sections to be taught during a specific semester. These updates need to be completed usually about 6 -8 weeks prior to the beginning of the upcomng semester. Updates prior to the beginning of a semester include:
- Update any due dates for tests/exams/quizes/assessments that are in the Assessments tab to reflect appropriate dates for the upcoming semester.
- Update any due dates for any assignments/assessments that are in the Dropbox tab to reflect appropriate dates for the upcoming semester.
- Update any due dates for any discussion Forums/Topics that are in the Discussions tab to reflect appropriate dates for the upcoming semester.
- Update any due dates within in the Course Checklist to reflect appropriate dates for the upcoming semester, if this tool is used..
- Update the Calendar tool to include major milestones within the course and any due date for any graded assessment within the course - for the upcoming semester.
- Note: course developers can enable the "Display in Calendar" setting in the Assessments, Discussions, Dropbox and Checklist tools.
- Make continual modifications to the course. RODP courses should not be considered static courses which are finished when the original course development is completed. Course developers should be looking to continually "tweek" and improve their courses. RODP course developers should consider the teaching of the course they have developed as a collaborative process.
- Course developers should be open to suggestions from other faculty member who are teaching the course, as well as, from students who have/are taking the course.
- Course developers should be continually looking for additional content and resouces which might be added to the course to further enrich student's learning experiences.
