Occupational Licensure
The Board of Education - Department of Vocational Education in partnership with the Board of Regents - Regents Online Program have joined together to establish an online delivery option for occupational instructors in need of completing their eighteen credit hours in education. Completion of these courses will allow teachers to meet the educational requirements for advancing from the Apprentice Occupational Education License to the Professional Occupational Education License. This program is available online through the Regents Online Program at all of the Board of Regents Universities.
To apply for the Professional Occupational Education License, you must be issued an Apprentice Occupational Education License and you must complete a teacher preparation program (up to 18 hours) designed to meet the knowledge and skills of occupation teachers as defined by the Vocational-Technical Department of the Department of Education. These courses must be completed within the first three years of employment (at least 6-semester hours must be completed in the first year of teaching).
Courses are offered in an online, asynchronous, 24/7 format (any time anywhere access to course content). It is advisable to take only one or two courses (three or six credits) each semester while teaching during the academic school year. Completing two courses each semester allows you to complete all 18 hours within one calendar year. You may select to take additional hours during your summer break. Courses are available at both the undergraduate level and the graduate level.
Please Note: The Occupational Licensure Program is available at the undergraduate level at ETSU, MTSU, TSU, and TTU. The program is available at the graduate level at ETSU, MTSU, TSU, TTU, and UOM.
