Drafting & CAD Technology
Drafting is viewed as the graphic language of the industrial world. Drafters develop clear, complete and accurate working plans, maps and detailed drawings based on rough sketches and specifications furnished by engineers, architects or designers. Today, computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems are the principal tool used to prepare drawings.
Drafters usually work for architectural, engineering or construction firms, government agencies, mining firms and manufacturing industries. Drafting training also opens many doors to management, supervision and inspection positions where the ability to read and interpret technical drawings are valuable skills.
If you are seeking a career in computer-aided drafting, these competency-based courses will enable you to develop the skills that are essential for entry-level employment. Professionals from various drafting disciplines worked closely with course designers and developers to ensure that you will have attained the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the field of drafting.
The drafting curriculum is certified by the American Design Drafting Association and maintains compliance with engineering and industry standards.
The Drafting and CAD Technology certificate programs are presented in 15-week cycles and include:
- Detail Drafter Certificate – helps students acquire the knowledge and develop the skills to apply shape description to design problems and prepare drawings that conform to national standards.
- CAD Technician Certificate for Practicing Professionals - designed for practicing professionals with experience and/or training as a drafter, designer, surveyor, architect, engineer, machinist or manufacturing programmer. The focus will be on developing the skills necessary for the successful use of AutoCAD and SolidWorks in business and industry. Students should contact a local Technology Center to determine eligibility.
