| Course Information | |
| Course Description: | This course is designed to give students the basis for writing a well organized and cohesive essay. The emphasis of the course is on writing as a process. Along with the writing process, students will learn grammar and mechanics. |
| Course Objectives: | 1.
Learn to compose a five-paragraph essay with introductory, body, and
concluding paragraphs which demonstrate unity, support, and coherence.
2. Identify and correct subject/verb agreement errors. 3. Identify and correct fragments, run-on sentences, and comma splices. 4. Use appropriate coordination and subordination. 5. Identify and correct verb and pronoun usage. 6. Identify and correct spelling errors. 7. Appropriate use of punctuation, especially commas. 8. Learn to write clearly and effectively in order to convey thought and ideas to the reader. 9. Use a personal computer to enhance the writing process and communicate with others. |

| Class Participation: | Students must participate in all interactive aspects of the course. They are expected to communicate with the instructor, check course bulletin board for announcements, and actively participate in threaded discussion events. |
| Punctuality: | Assignments must be turned in by the dates listed on the calendar. Late assignments will be reduced by 10 points for each day that it is late. |

| Students are expected to participate in this course, communicate with other students in team projects, learn how to navigate in WebCT, and keep abreast of course announcements. Each student must use the assigned e-mail address. E-mails will not be read if they are sent from a different address each time. In other words, you must be consistent and use the same address each time. Please address technical problems immediately and observe course netiquette at all times. | |

Remember without facial expressions some comments may be taken the wrong way. Be careful in wording your emails. Use of emoticons might be helpful in some cases. Use standard fonts. Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication. Respect the privacy of other class members. |

the discussion threads thoroughly before entering the discussion. Be a
lurker then a discussant.
Try to maintain threads by using the "Reply" button rather starting a new topic. Do not make insulting or inflammatory statements to other members of the discussion group. Be respectful of other's ideas. Be patient and read the comments of other group members thoroughly before entering your remarks. Be cooperative with group leaders in completing assigned tasks. Be positive and constructive in group discussions. Respond in a thoughtful and timely manner. |
