Intermediate Document Processing

Course Information

Course Description:

Developing the ability to bring word processing to its full capabilities with knowledge for a position in today’s marketplace.  This course contains the continuation of basic typing skills and emphasizes the formatting of various kinds of business correspondence reports, tables, electronic forms, and desktop publishing projects from arranged, unarranged, and rough-draft sources

Course Objectives:

1. Format business correspondence correctly.
2. Document input formatting and arrangement.
3. Grammar correction, content, word usage, and spelling.
4. Merging multiple documents by form files with data files.
5. Enhance document format with design elements.
6. Utilize clip art and word art.
7. Create complex business documents.
8. Format tables use formulas in tables.
9. Format complex reports with footnotes, endnotes, and indexes.
10. Develop preliminary pages for reports (title page, letter of transmittal, table of contents, and executive summary).

Course Topics:

Install the Distance Learning CD that came with your kit. Read the “Getting Started Page”.
Go through the tutorial to familiarize yourself with Gregg College Keyboarding and Document Processing.

Finished – You may use any time left at the end of the trimester to play catch up, redo assignments you want to improve on, or just sit back and wait for your grades.  By this time, you have gained a great skill and you may want to go back to continue keeping up your speed and redo some timings, since you have improved your speed and accuracy.  Remember, I take the best of your scores.

Assessment and Grading

Testing Procedures:

College Keyboarding and Document Processing (GDP) is software used to teach, test, and grade keyboarding and word processing. Throughout the modules you will be graded at various progress checks and testing points.

Grading Procedure:

Your grade will be based on Skills (Tests) (50%), Related Word (Progress Checks) (15%), and Time Writings (25%) Technique (10%).

SKILLS SCORE:

Timed Writings, Progress checks, and Tests are administered throughout your modules as follows: Notice the time and error limitations for each progress check. Your time accumulates as you create the documents and increases each time you edit the documents. You must make at least a C (77) on all Progress Checks and Tests or you will be asked to re-do the progress check and/or test.

Timings: Three and five minute timed writings beginning after lesson 60
A=48+ wpm Two Errors are Acceptable (by the time you finish lesson 80)
A=48+ wpm Two Errors are Acceptable (by the time you finish lesson 100)
A=50+ wpm
Two Errors are Acceptable (by the time you finish lesson 119

Punctuality:

Students are permitted to work ahead of the time-line in this course. You must adhere to the minimum completion time-line to finish this course as required by the end of the trimester.

Guidelines for Communications

Email:

  • Always include a subject line.
  • Remember without facial expressions some comments may be taken the wrong way. Be careful in wording your emails. Use of emoticons might be helpful in some cases.
  • Use standard fonts.
  • Do not send large attachments without permission.
  • Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.
  • Respect the privacy of other class members
