10 Year Anniversary

10 Year AnniversaryOn September 22, 2000, the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) voted unanimously to pass a motion approving a basic plan and budget for a web-based degree program. The web-based program would support TBR’s long range goal of providing quality post-secondary degree programs to Tennesseans who cannot complete their degrees without asynchronous online access.

Over the span of one year, a core team of extraordinary educators and administrators from across Tennessee collaboratively reached and set into motion, major decisions on a degree framework, course development plan, 2+2 articulation, a new Learning Management System, SACS substantive change notification, credit transferability among institutions, financial aid eligibility, a common calendar, critical student support services, faculty development and a marketing plan.

In the fall semester of 2001, the team’s hard work and dedication was rewarded with resounding success. The program launched with 1,048 students and 1,798 enrollments. Student headcount exceeded initial projections by 110%!

The Regents Online degree program has continued to experience phenomenal growth and expansion in its 10-year history. For the academic year of 2010-2011, program headcount exceeded 38,000 students, while enrollments surpassed 63,000.

Regents Online has truly made a better life for Tennesseans through education. Happy 10th Anniversary!
